- long lastability
- level editor
- multiplayer
- a lot of optional quests
- not just fighting, it also has a lot to do with your choices (fighting is not always necessary)
- no party
I've been playing Neverwinter Nights (NWN) constantly since frieday and I'm absolutely charmed by this game. It is a followup of the Baldurs Gate (BG) saga but not to be seen als Baldurs Gate 3! The basic difference is that it is based on the 3rd edition D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) rules while BG is based upon the 2nd edition. But if you've played BG before you won't have problems dealing with NWN. Newbies should pay attention to the tutorial or read the manual :)
Another difference is that you don't have a party anymore! Instead there are henchmen to help you (I will get into that later).

The Story

You start out in the NWN academy where several NPCS introduce you to the gameplay and to fighting. You also learn to know that there is a plague overwhelming the city. Therefore the city is set under quarantine being a prison for sick and not sick people. Lord Nasher of Neverwinter therefor looks for volunteers to find out who is behind this plague and of course to find the cure. So you are one of them...

The Character

As usual you can completely modify your character. Chose between male or female, chose a race (men, elven, dwarf etc.), a class (fighter, wizard, ranger, druid etc.), pick your skills and spells and set up your oudward appearance. Apart from this is the mentality which is important, e.g. if your are lawfull good you can't run around and kill everyone.

The henchmen

Well, it is quite sad that there isn't a party anymore which used to be one of my favorite features of BG. I guess they did it because the game is supposed to be Multiplayer based. In Multiplayer games you can of course set up partys with other gamers.
There are different Henchmen with different classes, if you are a fighter yourself you shouldn't hire another fighter but a rogue to open locks and find traps or a wizard or cleric to cast spells.
You can only give them potions, no amor or weapons. Your henchmen levels up when you do but always is a level below yours. While proceding in the game, your henchman will automatically get a better armor and weapon. You can also give him a lot of commands, such as guarding you, standing on ground, casting spells etc. Most of them can also choose between ranged or melee weapons.

In detail: Neverwinter Nights

Graphics

9.0
Graphics are awesome and very detailed. You have different kinds of camera perspectivesa and it is all 3D.

Sound

8.0
Sounds are pretty good and sound a lot like BG or Morrowind.

Control

9.0
Controls are very easy. You basically use your mouse and the keyboard for shortkeys.

Gameplay

8.0
I still miss my party, apart from that it's just awesome. The game is not as linear as e.g. Dungeon Siege. There are lot of optional quests and sometimes you can even chose what to do for the main quest (e.g. there are 4 possibilities bit only 2 you have to take).

Lastability

9.0
A bunch of classes, a bunch of quests, awesome multiplayer and the oportunity to download or create new mods with the editor.

Total (not an average)

9.0
Definitely a must-have! (Check back for my Review on multiplayer and the level editor)
